Skip Trowel Drywall Texture
Commonly, a skip trowel is found in older homes. While this texture is fairly common in older homes, not many contractors specialize in skillfully applying or matching this texture. This texture is created by using a flat trowel, skimmed or “skipped” over the surface with joint compound. In many versions of skip trowel sand is used, but not always. This texture can appear thick and sometimes gritty or sandy in texture.
A skip trowel is typically not applied in newer homes, however custom finishes include a level four smooth with slight, irregular “skip trowels” over the surface giving the appearance of a modernized old world texture.
